RCTA Sunset Concert Series: Jazz
07:00 PM–08:00 PM on Saturday, June 09, 2012

Calling all blankets, picnic baskets, and candles! The Riverside Clay Tennis Association is once again hosting its series of sunset concerts on the tennis lawn overlooking the Hudson River at 97th Street.
Ron McClure & Friends
Perennial favorite and world-renowned jazz bassist Ron McClure opens the 2012 concert season, which is appropriate as Ron and his jazz ensemble played the first RCTA free summer concert back in the mid-90s.
The Series celebrates our fabulous park and represents the rich cultural diversity of the Upper West Side. Each concert begins at 7 p.m. and continues through shades of orange, red and purple, ending around 9 p.m. Bring your picnic basket and blanket and join us. Stick around afterward and watch the fireflies rise up out of the lawn and the stars speckle the sky. In the event of inclement weather, call the hotline, 212-978-0277, to see whether a concert has been postponed.

The “rover” of the play’s title is Willmore, a rakish naval captain, who falls in love with a young woman named Hellena, who has set out to experience love before her brother sends her to a convent. Complications arise when Angellica Bianca, a famous courtesan, falls in love with Willmore and swears revenge on him for his betrayal.
Meanwhile, Hellena’s sister Florinda attempts to marry her true love, Colonel Belvile, rather than the man her brother has selected. The third major plot of the play deals with the provincial Blunt, who becomes convinced that a girl has fallen in love with him but is humiliated when she turns out to be a prostitute and a thief.

Thursday – Sunday; July 12 – August 5: The Rover by Aphra Behn

Tres Amigos – country-western-swing-accordion-folk
The Tres Amigos make timeless music. A tight-rope-walking blend of country-western-swing-accordion-folk, The Tres Amigos present high-energy original music and forgotten gems in bold, acrobatic performances. Behind those matching mariachi shirts are virtuosic musicians, delivering the goods in sunny three-part harmony and with all the vibe of your uncle’s old ‘45’s.
